Dia de los Muertos

Today is the Day of the Dead.  Every day is now, to greater or lesser degrees.  I really hate that that's the case.

And that's all I have to say about that right now.

  1. Good point: it is, more or less. With living so far from Mexico and a smaller Hispanic population than where you are, I've never really had to face much of anything about the Day of the Dead. I don't even necessarily know what all it is/means/is for...and apparently, that's not a bad thing.

    Hugs, as always.

  2. It is basically a day of remembrance, and as such, not a bad day, just potentially a wistful and possibly sad day, depending on where you're at with your grief, I suppose. It's an ancient pre-Columbian ritual, and All Souls' Day is the Catholic analog, also today.

Next weekend is a belated Day of the Dead parade; my friends and are are considering marching in it--it's open to the public. It isn't the remembrance that's sad, so much, and I like the idea of death being something we face rather than avoid. I just miss my sweetie. All those years, Day of the Dead was an interesting cultural event to me; now, it's personal.
